METHOD and METHODOLOGY

Sunday, August 17, 2008
I referred to Encarta dictionary for a clearer definition, method means way of doing something: a way of doing something or carrying something out, especially according to a plan while methodology means organizing system: the methods or organizing principles underlying a particular art, science, or other area of study After having a deeper thinking about the two terms, I can say that method is under or falls under methodology since they seem to be just the same. And method has appeared to be in a more organize mode in methodology.

it is possible to have method and methodology in a research. in the "method" part, one will document his/her procedure or the system he/she applied to accomplish whatever, while in the "methodology", the researcher will discuss theories or provide theoretical analysis or background behind the method or methods used, why such methods were used, why they work, and etc.
